The marriage of

Chidiebere&Adaeze

Igba Nkwu — the wine will find its owner.

Monday 27 December 2027

Owerri

A joyful couple dances at an African-themed celebration, highlighting vibrant attire and cultural traditions.

Our story

Chidi did the knocking, iku aka, the way it should be done: with his father, his umunna and a keg of palm wine, at the door of Adaeze's family in Owerri.

After the families talked and the list was settled, we set the date for the Igba Nkwu. Adaeze will carry a cup of palm wine into the crowd, find Chidi among all the faces, kneel, and offer it to him. When he drinks, we're married, and her father blesses us in front of everyone.

She'll wear coral beads and jigida, a George wrapper and a red-and-gold blouse; he'll wear the isiagu and the red cap of a titled man. Then there's church, then a reception that does the culture proud.

Nno. Come and eat, come and dance, come and watch a whole village decide it approves of us.
