Adeyemi & Toluwalope

A New Chapter

We met at a friend's introduction ceremony, of all places. Adeyemi was the groom's cousin, Tolu was there for the bride, and neither of us paid the couple much attention after the first hour.

When Adeyemi came to ask, he did it properly. His family sat on one side, ours on the other, and two alaga traded proverbs and prayers until the letter was read and accepted. He prostrated flat, the way our fathers did, and Tolu's aunties decided on the spot that they liked him.

With love,

How we met

For the engagement we're wearing matching aso-oke, gold on wine, and Tolu will pick her Bible out of the eru iyawo with the ring tucked inside. Then the white wedding, then an owambe that will run until the DJ gives up.

Come dressed to dance. There will be jollof, there will be spraying, and there will be far too many photographs.

A Note on Gifts

Your prayers and your presence are the real gifts. If you'd like to give more, we're building a home, and spraying on the day is always welcome.

FAQ

Good to Know

What is aso-ebi and do I need it?
Aso-ebi is the shared fabric guests wear so everyone matches on the day. We'll share the fabric and a tailor closer to the time. It's a lovely thing to be part of, but never compulsory.
Can I spray money?
Please do. Spraying the couple as they dance is how we celebrate, and if you can't travel you can spray online through this site.
What should I wear?
Traditional and colourful for the engagement and reception, formal for the church. The colour of the day is wine and gold.
Two days seems like a lot. Do I attend everything?
Come to whatever you can. The traditional and the reception are the parties; the church is quieter and shorter.
