Turmeric for the bride among the women. A gentle start.

Together, by candlelight
Saturday 6 November 2027 in Lahore
We met at a friend's mehndi, both dodging the dance floor. We lasted about ten minutes before someone pulled us into it, and that was that.
It begins gently with the mayun, turmeric on the bride at home among the women. Then the mehndi: marigolds, dhol, henna and both families dancing until they're hoarse.
The nikah is the vows and the contract, quiet and sacred, signed before witnesses. At the baraat Bilal arrives with his side, and Ayesha's sisters will hide his shoes and refuse to return them cheaply, joota chupai, it's tradition. Then the rukhsati, the tearful farewell, and finally the walima, the reception Bilal's family hosts.
Come dressed to shine. There will be biryani, there will be dancing, and the lights will not go out early.
